While the House of Holland may be doing roaring business with their t-shirts featuring witty one-liners rhyming with the names of designers and models, I can't help but get a "been there, done that" feeling. For me, if you're going to have text on your shirt Katherine Hamnett protest t-shirts are the way to go. At this point, my collection consists of a salmon pink shirt emblazoned with "Vote! Get it straight by '88"...an acid yellow silk shirt telling us to "Stay alive in '85"...and, my favorite, a long-sleeved black t-shirt, complete with a skull and the menacing injunction to "Clean up or die". |
