It's a funny old world, isn't it? As the US faces a mortgage crisis and, in the UK, there are questions over Barclays' "liquidity" Selfridges opens their Wonder Room. As of today you can visit the 19,000 square foot, neo-clasically decorated space anytime the urge strikes for a £311,000 Tiffany & Co. necklace or a diamond-encrusted sink plunger by Chrome Hearts. Or, presumably, a one-off saddle from Hermes...like the one commissioned for Selfridges' window display. Oscar Wilde said, "nothing succeeds like excess"...Selfridges seems to be betting that there are enough of the nouveau riche to make Wilde's words ring true. |

The books sound interesting but apart from that...
I'm assuming this will work on a novelty/hit-and-run concept and will only be open for a short period of time until the uber-rich have bought their toys.
